Phase II - Gallon Jug

Today at the Spanish Lookout ferry we heard the Mormon comment again, so we went for it. We’re now one big happy family. Sorry about that, you all.
Our travels today went like clockwork. Checked out and said our goodbyes at DuPlooy’s after a nice conversation with Judy the owner about possible internship/volunteer partnerships in the future, and headed to fill up our tanks (gulp). Our trucks are diesel and it’s going for about $5/gallon, so we were well over $100 when we were done. Ah well – the tanks are huge and maybe we won’t have to fill them again. We found the ferry no problem, and a few of the kids got the chance to crank it.
We waited a quick 15 minutes and Jose Luis, one of the guides from Chan Chich, arrived in his signature white pickup to lead us through shortcut along the old logging up to our next destination , Gallon Jug Estates.
A quick hour later (kids in the back of the pickup trucks, some less sunscreened than others, which provided an important life lesson…) we were at the center of the estate, dropping the kids at the barn to settle into their rooms and have lunch with their caretakers, Rita and Duna, as we headed to Chan Chich to settle ourselves and make plans for the next days. We were joined quickly by the students, desperate for a jump in the pool. They’ve hung around all afternoon and are presently sitting on the porch of the lodge in comfy chairs playing CatchPhrase happily. Dinner back at the barn at 6, a quiet night, then our adventures here start. We’ll spend a bunch of time at the school, tour the estate’s many agro industries, explore the unexcavated Maya ruins around us, hike the trails, swim, sun, visit the local village during the nightly soccer match, and just live the life here for a few days. Everyone is content.
